Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Resolution No. 400-24,reports as follows:
Resolution No. 400-24,transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako, via Communication No. 659
dated December 20, 2023, authorizes the Department of Parks and Recreation to award funds to Hawai`i
HI-Diving Friends.
This resolution provides $66,815 of grant funds for the Charles "Sparky"Kawamoto Swim Stadium
Dive Tower New Staircase project.
Parks and Recreation Director Maurice Messina provided a brief overview. D.J. Freedman, President of
the Hawai`i HI-Diving Friends nonprofit, spoke about this project's importance.
Committee Member Michelle Galimba congratulated the department on getting these repairs done.
Committee Member Cindy Evans expressed her appreciation towards the collaboration of public and
private partnerships and asked Mr. Messina to provide a brief overview of those community
engagements.
Committee Member Rebecca Villegas thanked the department for all their hard work and efforts in
improving our recreational spaces.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 400-24, and
recommends its adoption.
