No. 402-24 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Hilo, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 10:41 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 402-24, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 402-24, transmitted by Finance Director Deanna S. Sako, via Communication No. 661 <br /> dated December 20, 2023, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii <br /> Department of Health. <br /> This resolution allows for the receipt of$478,400 of state-derived funds to support the ongoing <br /> operations of the Hawaii Island Fentanyl Task Force. <br /> Research and Development Director Douglass Adams and Executive Assistant to the Mayor Tim <br /> Hansen gave some background information about this measure. <br /> Committee Member Rebecca Villegas thanked both men for their hard work. She also expressed her <br /> gratitude towards the Hawaii Police Department's Vice Task Force for their successful fentanyl drug <br /> bust in the Kona area. <br /> Committee Member Cindy Evans requested more information on how these funds are going to be spent. <br /> In response, Mr. Hansen provided a very detailed explanation to Ms. Evans. He also asked Corporation <br /> Counsel Elizabeth Strance for a more thorough explanation of how these funds were acquired and how <br /> the department plans to use these funds. <br /> Pursuant to Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, the Mayor of the County of Hawaii is authorized to <br /> execute, on behalf of the County, this and all future agreements and related documents with the State of <br /> Hawaii Department of Health for funding as described. <br /> FC Report No. 127 <br />
