HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0496.059 2022-2024 P / Counci Sill 82 WMM.qq6 Testimony in Favor Of Bill 82 so Thank you again for the opportunity to testify in support of Bill 82. is I am Jim Hoffman, President of the Hawaiian Acres Community Association. I, and we, have appeared before you numerous times in support of efforts to improve the road infrastructure within our, and other, subdivisions. We are the orphans of roads being pre-statehood creations that ignored, or did not consider, the need for a sustainable roads system. You are likely aware that, should Hwy 11 become unusable between Mile Marker 14 and 10, there would be no way to re-route traffic. The roads within Hawaiian Acres are less than adequate for the needs of accessibility, evacuation and ingress and egress. Should S. Kulani not be available, the residents of Fern Acres would be denied their sole egress route and be unable to evacuate their neighborhood in an emergency. Again, the roads within Hawaiian Acres are simply unsuitable for such purpose. Funds should be available even in the absence of Bill 82 to address these very real issues. The 4,000 tax paying parcels within Hawaiian Acres have not received an adequate return on their many years of tax remittance. Ironically, they, an area deserving of assistance, find themselves subsidizing other, more affluent areas, while their needs for drainage and road improvement are ignored. It is time for the County to step and address these issues not only for the sake of Hawaiian Acres, but also to address the need of the County to provide safe and accessible ingress, egress routes along with suitable roads that would allow ambulance and fire services to access homes in a timelier manner. We are all aware of the need and further elaboration is unneeded. Let's get this bill passed, let's get it funded, and let's get some action on this decades long problem. For your support and assistance allow me to say mahalo nui in advance. 5 Comm. No. Ref. To: 111(11,1 hall Ref. gate J`N 1 0 2024
