Subject: Confirmation of Matthias Kusch for the Windward Planning Commission
Aloha Council Chair Kimball and Council Members:
I am writing to humbly request the confirmation of Matthias Kusch to the Windward
Planning Commission for the seat representing the South Hilo judicial district at-large.
Matthias and I have worked together as volunteers through our roles as officers of Hilo
Bayfront Trails Inc. and in other endeavors, and I have gotten to know his qualities
firsthand. As a Planning Commissioner I know he would be diligent and conscientious in
attendance and preparation, particularly in digesting background material, which can be
a challenge. He works incredibly hard in anything he undertakes. He is fair,
compassionate and truly interested in the world of planning. He has lived in Hawaii for
decades and worked as a fire rescue specialist and EMT, achieving the rank of Battalion
Chief before he retired. That job helped him become intensely familiar with the
geography of the Big Island and the everyday struggles of the people who live here. He
would be an excellent addition to the Windward Planning Commission.
