Re: Resolution for a multi-year lease
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the payment of funds for more than one fiscal year,
for a new multi-year lease agreement for two grapple trucks. This equipment is to be
used by the Department of Environmental Management's Solid Waste Division and is
needed to move scrap metals, old appliances and other bulky items from the various
transfer stations to scrap metal facilities. The lease payments are anticipated to
commence in FY 2024-25 at a monthly cost of approximately $11,000.

A. REQUEST:

Resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into a multi-year lease agreement for two (2) 2024/2025 production
year Grapple trucks.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Solid Waste Division utilizes grapple trucks to move unwanted and disposed of scrap metals, old
appliances and big bulky items from the various transfer stations to the contractors permitted scrap metal
facility.
Incorporating the additional two trucks will provide the Operations more flexibility in serving all the facilites
islandwide. Additionally, it will ensure that the Division can keep up with the ever growing population of
Hawaii Island, as well as remain in compliance with the rules and regulations of the State Department of
Health
This equipment will be leased financed such that the County will own the equipment at the end of a five year
lease. The total purchase price for the 2 trucks is estimated to be $612,000. It is estimated that the monthly
lease payments for the 2 trucks will be $11,000, the annual estimated payments is $132,000.
Funding for the lease is included in the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget, due to the delivery andlead time, the
first payment is not expected to be made unitl Q3 FY2024/2025.
