Subject: Vacation Rental bill
For over 23 years, I have occupied a longterm rental unit as a site manager for a vacation rental home in Kona. I live in the
ohana unit and the mainland owner vacation rents the primary residence.The official narrative by the bill's supporters is that
by regulating or eliminating hosted rentals,affordable housing will suddenly become available for longterm rentals.Yet this bill
doesn't take into account situations like mine that create mutually beneficial, affordable opportunities for longterm renters, as
well as economic opportunities for self-employed individuals who the service vacation rental sector including housecleaners,
gardeners,site managers,handymen and more.Also, it doesn't take into account that mainland people can now more easily
work remotely from wherever they want to live. Longterm renters from the mainland willing to pay inflated rents will populate
these defunct vacation rental homes and ohanas, not the average local resident.This bill will create unintended consequences
that will price local residents out of paradise.
