Subject: Bill 121
Dear Hawaii County Council,
As a frequent visitor to the Island of Hawaii, I am deeply concerned about the unintended impacts of Bill 121.
I understand that housing in Hawaii is in short supply, is expensive, and some residents object to vacation rentals out of
concern for impact on the'character' of a place. All of these are valid concerns and in fact are issues across the nation.
However, some restrictions in this proposed bill threaten to injure residents for whom rental income is an important
source of livelihood and employment for island residents. I for one will simply not stay in the expensive and limited hotel
options on Hawaii Island. Ultimately, you could be reducing potential tax income to the County.
Please reconsider the bill and listen to TAR owners' concerns. Investigate how this is being addressed in other locales.
There are better ways to provide affordable housing to your constituents, and enforcing current rules on the books, than
by further penalizing TAR owner/operators.
Thank you,
Gail Ferguson N '
