Subject: Bill 121
Dear Council Members,
I grew up on Oahu and have always dreamed of being able to return to Hawaii someday. I will be retiring
in a few years and recently had the opportunity to buy a home in Keaau. Since we are not quite ready to
retire, we rely on being able to rent the home in order to make ends meet.We mostly cater to traveling
nurses and doctors who usually work at the Hilo hospital for a 3 month period. If Bill 121 becomes law it
is doubtful that we will be able to keep our home there and fulfill my dream of retirement. We are already
paying 18%of our gross income in taxes (as well as property taxes), and the additional burden proposed
by this legislation will likely be too much (if we are even allowed to continue renting it). I am sure that
there are others in the same situation as me that will not be able to fulfill their dreams if you proceed with
this legislation. So, again I request that you do not make it any more difficult for us to own and rent
property on the beautiful island of Hawaii.
Sincerely,
Walter Holladay
