Subject: NO to Bill 121
I am writing to express my strong opposition to bill 121. The damage this will do to local people who are
already struggling to make ends meet is immeasurable. If you going to allow hosted strs to be
grandfathered in, allow non-hosted who can prove a good record of operations and no complaints to also
be grandfathered in.There is so much grey area you are not taking into account. For example, a single
mother of a toddler who has a hosted rental but has aging parents on the mainland she must tend to- is is
not suitable to have an "operator" in her bedroom as "host". She is near invisible and gives the guests a
ton of space-she cannot entrust her sole livelihood to someone else in intimate quarters. She must care
for her parents on the mainland but if she is required to be hosted, she will lose her house and her
income-this house is for her daughter's future and your bill will force her to lose it-and her sole form of
income in raising a child alone. This is abhorrent- please do not make laws that pull local livelihoods out
from under them. The resorts have enough money and business. It is important to allow visitors to
experience local neighborhoods and true Aloha. And it is also important for local people who are
struggling to survive and will lose their homes along with the little bit of income that keeps them afloat.
