Subject: OPPOSED To Bills 121, 122 & 123
County Council is elected by the people to support the people of Hawaii County.
There is a broad spectrum of need of the people in your districts.
Housing is a "crisis" but there are many policy changes that can be made to alleviate
working force, local families, young adults, mulitgenerational living situations, make
housing more affordable.
• ease building codes, most housing is not in hurricane zones and so many,, cc._
contractors will tell you how ridiculous current building codes are ={
• allow more density
• re-zoning of select areas to allow for more mulit-unit housing

We are o pposed to ALL 3 BILLS 121, 122, 123 that have been proposed.
• Please type in Council members names that proposed each of these bills below the
signature lines. The signatures are not legible and the names of council member
should be clearly typed for public knowledge.
• B&B's are so few in the big picture of housing in Hawaii County. They exist across
our entire country and Hawaii County is.choosing to attack these treasured and
intimate options as an accommodation for all.
• Locals need options to hotels when they travel to Hawaii Island. Paddling clubs,
youth athletics, youth clubs, family celebrations, graduations, sports, etc. require
travel at times and the council's decisions will make travel completely unaffordable
with hotel accommodations and very limited options.
• B&B's and short term rentals are not the same travelers as those seeking hotel
accommodations. The council's decision will make travelers go somewhere else,
Hawaii is unaffordable.
• B&B's and short term rentals create jobs for many local residents. Cleaners, yard
maintenance, home maintenance and repair, management are all local, tax
paying, hard working residents.
• Some may view these bills as favorable to open up more housing. However, major
reform is needed to the landlord-tenant code, homeowners have almost no
protections when long term renting.
WE ARE OPPOSED TO BILLS 121, 122 and 123, these will be detrimental to Hawaii
Residents and Visitors. Short term rentals pay 17.75% tax to operate in Hawaii County
and the council should support these residents that depend on the income to make ends
meet and employ many Hawaii County residents.
