Subject: TAR bill 121
Aloha
I am writing to provide public testimony against TAR bill 121.
It does not make sense to limit local people's ability to generate revenue off of the property that they live on.
I completely understand limiting unhosted rentals. However hosted vacation rentals is a way to afford and keep our own
properties because of the costs of living in Hawaii.
Please don't make life harder on us.
Allow us to use our home and resources to afford to live here.
Furthermore the hotel industry has capitalized the most off of the reduction of short term vacation rentals. Hotel prices have
skyrocketed since 2018 when the restrictions of unhosted STVRs were passed. We are raising prices on visitors to a point
where we will see a significant reduction in visitor arrivals and spending that will greatly impact our economy. There are very
few examples of government regulation of private activity that has improved well ...anything.Our government is unable to take
care of the communities basic necessities like roads, sanitation and parks yet they feel the need to intervene with our ability
to sustain our families on our own properties. This bill will not help affordable housing as our unit and m at like it would not be
rented for long term use.To accomplish affordable housing you need to increase REAL housing inventory not people's ohanas
and tiny homes in the properties that they own.
What you are doing is called government overreach. Please direct your efforts to solving REAL problems on our island. I will be
happy to give you a list of all the areas under county jurisdiction that are not being adequately maintained.
