I am writing to express my wholehearted support for the continued operation of short-term rentals in
Hawaii, particularly as a host who has personally experienced the positive impact of home sharing on my
life, my family, and the local economy.
Hosting guests in our home has been an incredibly rewarding experience, both personally and
financially. It has allowed my family to make the most of our property, share the unique beauty of our
local community, and connect with people from around the world.The positive interactions with guests
have enriched our lives and created lasting memories for both our family and those who have stayed with
us.
On a practical level, income from short-term rentals has been instrumental in supporting our family's
financial well-being.This supplemental income has helped us cover expenses, and make necessary
improvements to our property.As a responsible host,we take pride in contributing to the local economy
by supporting nearby businesses and attractions,thereby fostering economic growth in our community.
I add jobs through short-term rental. I provide flexible work hours to minorities and women who may not
find time to work full-time 8-hour shifts due to family commitments and children.The cleaners who work
more than 20 hours a week also get employer-paid health insurance through the Hawaii Prepaid Health
Care Act.
In addition, short-term rental allows me to expand and prosper in agricultural activity on my property.
Fruits and products can be sold and provided to guests. Provide tours of the farm. Enhance their
experience and make them love Hawaii.Additional GE tax income for the state.
Home sharing also allows me to provide housing to those who come to work to provide essential services
on the island.We have hosted solar contractors who send their crews to work on projects.We have also
hosted EV charging station installers who are flown from other islands.Traveling nurses, essential
workers from Helco, and infrastructure service.We also host seasonal workers who come to work for
agricultural work on our farm and other farms. It provides a great alternative to expensive touristy hotels.
Moreover, short-term rentals have played a crucial role in diversifying tourism in Hawaii. By offering
unique and personalized accommodations,we attract a variety of visitors who contribute to the local
economy in different ways.This diversification not only benefits hosts like myself but also contributes to
the overall resilience and sustainability of the tourism industry in Hawaii.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that short-term rentals have a positive impact on both hosts and the local
community.As we navigate the challenges and opportunities in the evolving landscape of the hospitality
