Subject: Support of Carollo Cesspool Conversion Study in Puako
A6 a (1)ouv&tvy µEµDep Hoaxo fop PEE(k6, •
I support Carollo's work on Hawaii as well as their work in Puako.
• Since Puako is a low-lying group of homes, with approximately 70 cesspools, eliminating cesspools is a
big step towards saving the Puako reef. However,we also need some form of sewer in Puako.
• We have ample data that all effluent needs to be taken away from the reef. A sewer is the only solution
that eliminates all effluent.
• The State Legislature has 20 bills on the topic of cesspool conversion left over from the 2023 session.
They include accelerating the cesspool abandonment deadlines and many forms of financial
incentives.
• Puako4Reefs.org
• Today, I ask Council to help us lobby at the state this session for accelerating the cesspool
abandonment deadline for Priority One waters. Presently, it is 2050.
• THIS IS A REVENUE-NEUTRAL approach that will help us immeasurably towards our goal of saving
Puako Reef and many other near shore water areas.
