In Support of Bill 125 201 J!N 22 t In: 31 Aloha, I am a concerned life-long community member and I am writing in support of Bill 125. Our community is very protective of our land and people. Our number 1 priority has always been the safety for our kupuna and keiki. It is very dangerous to have bike riders on the road to Pololu and Mountain Road. Have you drove on those roads lately? The lanes are very narrow and there are no street lights to protect the pedestrians and drivers. This can cause horrific accidents that will lead to death. In my lifetime, there was a bike rider that was hit by a driver and killed right outside of Kohala. Those roads are a little bigger but still has small shoulder lanes. If someone can get hit in an open area like that, what does that say for our narrow roads to Pololu or the Mountain road? Another reason why I do not want a bunch of bikers on the road is that these are some of our only roads in and out of Kohala. The traffic that these tour companies already create in Hawi are rough on the local residents. Not to mention that we lack public bathroom facilities for all the foot traffic that would accumulate through Kohala. If we allow Bike tour companies through our town to our beautiful valley, it's just going to hurt our lands even more. Our Pololu stewards are doing their best to keep Pololu up to par and more traffic will be detrimental to Pololu. My sister-in-law drives a big rig and comes to Kohala to deliver products multiple times during the week. She drives through on the winding, small-laned roads on the road to Pololu. She also drives on the Mountain road on occasion. Can you imagine if you were a bike rider and a huge semi truck comes right behind you on a turn going downhill? That's scary. This is what it would be like if we allow Bike Tours to come through our small little town. It is not safe and someone will die if we do not pass this bill. I appreciate you taking the time to listen to why we need to be in support and pass Bill 125. This community means a lot to us and we will do everything in our power to keep our people safe. Melanie Diego Public School Teacher at Kohala Elementary Life-long community member Comm. No Ref. To: Ref. Date AN 2 2024 In Support of 125 Hello, I am a concerned citizen and so eager to stop this dangerous act that can cause many things. I am willing to support Bill 125. Our number 1 priority is to make sure people will be safe when driving to Keokea, Kapanaia, Pololu and even when they are on the mountain road. One reason why this is very dangerous is because there are too many narrow roads which can cause accidents, and these lanes are small with no sidewalks and there is no street light which could be dangerous at night especially. It can also cause road rage which hurts bikers when people driving cars get mad. It causes traffic which could not be safe therefore if there is any emergency it could be hard for any ambulance or even cops to get by to stop any madness I appreciate that you gave us time to tell you why we want this dangerous kind of act to stop for human safety life Kohala Elementary Student In support of Bill 125 As a worried Kohala student I don't want bike tours going to Pololu . There are many reasons why I don't want bike tours going to Pololu because it is very dangerous . One of the reasons is because the road is too narrow so it could be very dangerous for a biker and people driving cars, especially people driving big cars , for example big trucks . This could increase violence between a biker and the people driving cars . It can even create traffic. It would become a hazard between the biker and a driver and we don't need violence. You don't want that, either right? Thank you for taking the time to read my testimony . I hope you enjoy it and consider this in mind . Kohala elementary student In Support of Bill 125 Hello I am a concerned fifth grade student of the bike riders of Pololu and mountain roads.Because they could cause road rage and could possibly start violence among the cars and the bikers. There are also narrow and sometimes one lane roads which could be very unsafe for both of them because they could crash and get hurt. It could also cause traffic or even accidents. Kohala Elementary Student In support of Bill 125 Hi,I'm a concerned Kohala 5th grade Student as a person that visits Pololu Valley and Mountain road. Here are some reasons why it is dangerous for Bikers-to ride around small roads/lanes. It is really dangerous for Bike Riders to ride around Pololu Valley. Families or kids can maybe get hurt by getting into accidents by Bike riders. People can get into accidents by roads being too narrow for Bikers and Drivers making it difficult to Drive or Ride Bikes. It could not be safe for bike rides or drivers and could end up in a bad situation. Since we have some small roads it could cause some long traffic which would take a really long time. Mahalo for taking the time to listen to our testimony to keep our community safe for families and kids Bikers and Drivers too,and this island is really important to us. 5th Grade Kohala Student In Support of Bill 125 Hi I am an eager 5 grade Kohala student and I am for Bill 125 to ban Kohala bike riding tours to Pololu mountain road. I think it is a good idea to ban bike tours because it is a creation of road violence also a creation of traffic and very blind turns. I am for Bill 125 because of their consideration towards tourist and civilian safety. your consideration and time has a positive impact if we keep this up it can have a very fatal impact on the tourists and civilians thank you 5 Grade student In support of Bill 125 Hello, I'm a worried Kohala elementary student and I am concerned about the bikers and drivers getting hurt. It is way too dangerous and that could cause road rage, create traffic, and the roads are too narrow. I want to keep everyone safe on the road. I am in support of Bill 125 to ban bike tours to Pololu and the mountain road. First the roads are way too narrow that leads to traffic and when there is traffic then comes road rage and that would be very dangerous also if one of the drivers have a weapon or something they can hurt the bikers or other drivers. There are also no lights at night so the driver could not see the bikers and would accidentally hit them and cause lots of deaths. Road rage is something we want to get rid of so everyone can drive peacefully. We also have very narrow roads so that would cause lots and lots of traffic and then again there comes the road rage. The narrow roads are small enough with two cars coming from both sides we don't need a third. The bikers will also slow you down when you have to get somewhere, like when you have an important interview and need to be early to get set up. I appreciate you listening to my writing, please consider my writing, thank you. Sincerely Kohala elementary student In support of bill 125 Aloha, I am.a concerned fifth grader and I am for bill 125 to ban bike tours to Pololu and the Mountain road. There are many dangerous things that could happen on those very narrow roads, For example there are no road lights, so if the bike tours are at night they could not see and they could swerve off the road and fall to their death. There are also some blind turns and if the bikers need to slow down and turn a car could hit and crush them. Lastly, the bikers cause a lot of traffic and make it take a lot longer to get to your destination. These are three reasons that i am for bill 125. • In support of Bill 125 Hello! I am a Kohala elementary school student writing in support of Bill 125. Even though I have only been on that road a couple times I am concerned about the bikers there on pololu road. I am writing in support of Bill 125 because I am trying to make sure bikers don't get hurt or worse. It's very dangerous on pololu road for bikers and these are reasons why i support Bill 125. Road rage is one, road rage may cause bikers getting hurt and well there are a lot of bad people out there. The bikers may get ran over by angry cars even though it's rare it is still possible. Many people have weapons so some may choose bad decisions and use them on bikers when they are mad at them. There is blind and narrow turns on the road at Pololu. This may cause car drivers to not see the bikers and they may hit them. Also the narrow turns may cause people that are speeding to swerve and hit a biker, but this is also rare. The blind turns when me and my mom went there were annoying because we had to watch out. The bikers also might cause traffic because they move slow sometimes and if a biker falls then cars may stop. The bikers may stop at some times and also if the bikes cause traffic people in a hurry might be late for whatever reason. I don't see much traffic on that road but it is another possibility. I appreciate you having the time to read this. I hope you consider what me and my classmates said. • 5th grade Kohala student In Support of Bill 125 Hi, I am a concerned Kohala elementary school student and I am in support of Bill 125. Some reasons I don't want bike tours are that it can create many dangerous things. It can start traffic jams. It can cause road rage and eventually maybe car crashes. Can you imagine how many crashes would happen if we let this keep up. That is why I support Bill 125. I'm glad that you took your time to read my testimony. Kohala elementary school student In support of Bill 125 Hi, I am a Kohala student that loves going to Keokea with my family and I am dissapointed from the bike tours that causes many non safe things, But not only our community and environment needs to stay safe but also our people does too. I think it is very unbeleivably dangerous for bike riders coming into Pololu and Mountain road. One reason is because it could create major traffic and be unsafe. Traffic could cause violence to the drivers and it will end up with all negativity. Traffic would end up making drivers mad because they eventually can not be at their destinations in time because of the bikers. Another reason is because Violence,Violence could make it very unsafe for drivers and also bikers because there were some bikers that died while biking up Pololu. There would be a lot of violence if bikers kept blocking the lanes and it would make our community worse and worse. Bikers will not be safe if they keep going into the lanes. I think bikers should have bike lanes but also not because it would cost more money. It could be unsafe for drivers to see the bikers while they are blocking the roads. I appreciate you taking the time listening to me discuss my testimony on how i feel about biker tours making or community absurd.
