In the past I have submitted,to Cindy Evans, a petition signed by a significant number of members of the community on mainly the Hawi and Kapa'au side of Kohala Mountain. The road is narrow with many areas that contain no shoulder at all. There are blind corners and hills. There is no logical reason for any bicycle, including the planning and execution of a bike race event, on this road. The Kohala Mountain Road is not conducive to safe bicycle traffic and puts the lives of bikers and motorized vehicles at danger. Non motorized vehicle travel should not be allowed on the road and be an offence. There have been numerous accounts of community members having near misses and worse. I myself have narrowly missed bikes on more than one occasion. I believe there are many other community members that reside on the Waimea/Kamuela side that could attest to the same. Please ban bicycles on Kohala Mountain road and keep bike tour groups off the road to Pololu. Support Bill 125 and amend it to include banning all bicycles on Kohala Mountain Road.
