Many people decided to make their home in the Puna/Pahoa area during covid for their piece of somewhat affordable paradise in an area that did not support such growth...not only did this raise prices for local families just trying to stay where they grew up, but all these newcomers want is to change the land for their convenience. That is evident is their pursuit of finding alternate routes to get out of the community they choose to live in. No one wanted to do research, many bought site unseen and Pana'ewa should not suffer the consequence of their choice to live in the Puna area.... why change an area that was meant for the people of Hawaii.Would you want your children afraid to be in their own yards because of people driving 70 miles an hour in a 35 mph zone... absolutely not, so why would you fund a study to do just that?We see the craziness of the drivers on HI-11 and HI-130 and we don't want that craziness in such a peaceful neighborhood. I can't imagine having to wait in my own driveway for 30 mins just to get on the road. Please I am begging you to oppose opening up railroad, this local community does not deserve to carry the burden of Puna just for their convenience.Another solution to this problem would be to fund another school in the Puna area as many children in that area get exemptions to attend Hilo schools, which is a lot of the cause of traffic in the morning and afterschool time. Build up Puna, so newcomers have resources in the area they choose to live in, instead of ruining the local community of Pana'ewa.Thank you for your time and consideration.
