Subject: Support for Bill 107
To the County Council
We can't attend the meeting on January 24, so as residents of Puna district,we wanted to take this opportunity
to express our support for Bill 107, without any blanket exemptions or restrictions. The situation with route 130
is becoming intolerable and even dangerous. Beyond pushing the existing lanes far beyond what they were
designed to accommodate, a single accident can back up traffic for hours and we have personally experienced
instances of resulting road rage, which I am sure contributes to the number of accidents.
We all know how limited facilities are in this area. Being forced to miss appointments is a major inconvenience,
even a major threat, for people living with health issues, as are many residents in this area. We've experienced
an exponential increase in delays in the five years that we've lived here. With the continuing boom in
construction everywhere in the district, the situation is only going to get worse.
We know that this is not a situation that offers an easy solution. The study resulting from Bill 107 would
provide reasoned and balanced choices as we attempt to find a solution.
Thank you for your time and attention.
