Subject: Hawaii County Council Agenda 1/24/24: Support Testimony to Pass Bill 107
Aloha Hawaii County Council Chair Kimball and Council Members,
I am writing in support of passing Bill 107 to secure funding for the Puna Makai Alternate Route
study. Understandably, this bill has generated great concern in the Panaewa and Keaukaha homestead
community. That is why I also support Resolution 416 that addresses the concerns and safeguards from
negative impacts to the neighboring homestead community. The traffic problem Puna faces daily should not
be kicked down the road. This study needs to identify our best path forward that does not dump the problem
on our homestead community.
I urge the Council to pass Bill 107 and secure funding for the Puna Makai Alternate Route Study.
