We, Kupuna for the Mo'opuna, a hui of Hawaiian Homes Commission Act beneficiary
kupuna farmers from Pana`ewa, Hawai'i, continue to testify in strong opposition to Bill
107. -
We continue to support a Puna alternate route study with the amendment excluding
lands under the jurisdiction of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.
Why is Bill 107 here at Final Reading, still unamended, when the Hawaiian Homes
Commission and its homestead beneficiaries have consistently testified at the state and
county levels for the Puna alternate route study to exclude DHHL lands? Why does the
government continue to dismiss the voices of the native Hawaiian homestead
beneficiaries?
Homestead beneficiaries were given hope - and even given a photo of the amendment -
between First and Final Reading that an amendment to Bill 107 excluding DHHL lands
from the Puna alternate route study "was being worked on."
What happened to the amendment to Bill 107?
