Subject: Testimony for Bill 126
My name is Suzanne Frey. I live in Hawaiian Beaches. I want to urge all council members to vote FOR Bill
126.
As a member of the Kahakai Neighborhood Watch, I am well aware of the problem with squatters. In the
last few years, at least 6 homes in this subdivision have been set on fire &are now eyesores&a danger to
area residents. Most of this occurs because the owners of these properties live off island. Many times
they cannot be reached, the information on file is outdated or the owners just plain don't care. Unless
there is criminal activity on these properties, the police cannot do anything with neighbor complaints. It
has to be the property owner complaining.
It is not just the squatting at issue. It is also the collection of dumped cars, trespassers hanging around
late at night&the early morning hours&overgrown albezia trees that are a hazard to the neighboring
houses. The citizens of these subdivisions need to be able to reach a property owner or someone who
will represent them.
Please support Bill 126 & put some teeth into it so it can be enforced.
