It is our understanding that the mayor intends to do this because he thinks the citizens of West Hawaii are determined to have mauka-makai roads at any cost. Many people in West Hawaii have worked long and hard on the design of the Federally funded version of the Ali'i Parkway. What we want is an attractive, landscaped parkway that is an asset West Hawaii. The mayor's version would be a bare-bones road, with no landscaping, walking paths, etc., and would cost the County well in excess of $3 million which the County cannot afford. Please inform the mayor that his sources are wrong, The citizens of West Hawaii do not want amauka-makai road which is bare bones, unatVactive and would deplete County funding for other roads. Do not suffering any illusion. EVERYONE (I mean everyone) we talk to wants the Ali ~ Parkway as originally designed and planned and paid for with Federal highway funds!
