HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 438 Draft 01 2022-2024 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT TO AWARD FUNDS TO VARIOUS NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THROUGH THE KĪLAUEA RECOVERY GRANT PROGRAM WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code (2016 Edition as amended) states, Grant awards in excess of $25,000 to nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the grant funds and the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance or resolution; and WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawai‘i County Code states, “nonprofit organization” means an organization organized for other than profit-making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax-exemption from the Internal Revenue Code; and WHEREAS, the organizations specified in “Exhibit A”, which correspondingly qualify as nonprofit organizations as defined above, will provide relief, recovery, mitigation, and long-term resilience for disaster damages, losses, and suffering caused by the 2018 Kīlauea eruption; and WHEREAS, the Planning Department wishes to provide a total of $3,293,400 to these organizations as outlined in “Exhibit A”; now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I, in accordance with Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, the Planning Department is authorized to provide grants totaling of $3,293,400 to various nonprofit organizations as specified in “Exhibit A” to provide relief, recovery, mitigation, and long-term resilience for disaster damages, losses, and suffering caused by the 2018 Kīlauea eruption. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawai‘i shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Finance Department, and the Planning Department.
