Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 421-24,reports as follows:
Resolution No. 421-24,transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa, via Communication No. 703
dated January 19, 2024, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii
Office of Planning and Sustainable Development.
This resolution allows for the receipt of$400,000 of state-derived funds to support the assessment,
design, and feasibility of low-income affordable housing in a portion of Kukuiola Village 9 in North
Kona.
Finance Director Diane Nakagawa was available in the Hilo Chambers to answer any questions.
Office of Housing was not available to provide background on this measure.
Committee Member Rebecca Villegas commented on the location of this project as this area is within
her Council district.
Committee Members Cindy Evans and Heather Kimball commented on this measure.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 421-24, and
recommends its adoption.
