Subject: Bill 125 :: belated testimony submission
Hello County Councilmembers -
I am submitting testimony late,but wanted to make sure my voice was heard on Bill #125.
I would like to ask questions for the council to consider-as I know there was a request for more time to
consider issues.
What is the purpose of this legislation?Who is affected/impacted and who will be suffering if this is passed?
I would encourage your committee and the whole council to hear from people who've been involved in prior
road-related issues.An example would be PATH who has worked on Safe Routes to School and the Hawai'i
Cycling Club who has safety instructors who could provide safety input to the council.There are examples of
other road sharing rules that have provided more safety for both drivers and cyclists throughout the
Continental US,and I'd encourage the council to do research into those options.
As a cyclist and taxpayer, I drive and ride on the roads and I feel this Bill has the potential to penalize all
cyclists,instead of only impacting the folks who are dealing with bike tour operators.
