Re: Animal Control
With regard to current animal control practices, I would strongly recommend the following:
• A facility where stray/unwanted animals could be dropped off and humanely managed. This used to be
available when the Kea'au Humane Society was still responsible for dealing with animals. Living in the Pi'ihonua
neighborhood, I have had multiple occasions where I've found lost hunting dogs or abandoned animals.
Recently, I've reported a dog that I couldn't catch and Animal Control caught the animal. On another occasion,
had to take a dog to my vet to see if it had been microchipped (it had not).
• Reinstituting a humane euthanasia program for dangerous/un-adoptable animals. There are not enough
people to adopt all the animals that need it.
• Neutering/spaying and chipping program for animals who are turned into animal control.Animals should be
neutered before being released back to owner or to adoption.
