Re: Dog Attacks: Enforcement and penalties
I would like to see laws that make it unlawful for the owner of any dog to suffer or permit the same to annoy and harass,
chase, threaten to inflict or inflict injury of any kind on any person or animal.
Approximately a year ago, I was walking with my dogs when they were attacked by three unleashed hunting dogs. One
of my dogs was seriously injured and required surgery. While the owner did pay for the medical costs, he should have
had his animals leashed.
I also know of property owners who have had their livestock(goats and sheep) attacked and killed on their property and
killed by hunting dogs.
Note: I would also support the licensing and registration of hunting dogs. My rationale is that if these dog owners are
releasing their dogs to roam free and hunt, then the dogs should be registered. My experience is that hunters often
hunt off of Piihonua and close to homes.
My aloha,
