Subject: Written testimony for bill 131-24: in favor of alternate roads study for Puna
Aloha, I live in lower Puna, behind Kehena Beach. I humbly request that the county council begin work to study alternate
roads in the Puna district.
In particular, It is critical that we get an alternate road to highway 130 for at least two big reasons- (1)To relieve pressure
on traffic. Commute times have almost doubled as traffic increases on the road given the rapid development and
growing. (2)As we learnt in the 2018 eruption, Hwy 130 is a single point of failure if it develops cracks/steaming and
becomes impassable. There ought to be an alternative so residents don't get trapped down here.
