Please support funding for a study on addressing the traffic problem getting from Puna, and particularly Pahoa, into
Hilo.
Our young people,who are mostly working in Hilo, lose more than an hour each day sitting in traffic. This is time they
could spend with their young children. So far,the County has failed them and they are in many cases some of the most
marginal citizens who need all the support they can get. Puna is the only place they can afford to live and with the rapid
build-up of population in Puna,the problem is only going to get worse.
Our other major population is senior citizens whose very lives depend on rapid access to the hospital. Getting from
Pahoa to Hilo hospital can take as much as 2 hours at peak traffic. They may lose their lives before reaching the
hospital.
