Subject: Support to pass Bill 131-24 "Puna Alternate Routes"
Hello,
My husband and I live in Hawaiian Beaches on Opelu Street in the district of Puna. We support the Bill 131-24 to 1)
improve transportation efficiency, 2) reduce traffic congestion, and 3)enhance evacuation capabilities during
emergencies.
The traffic from Hilo to our home is often congested. An alternate route would solve the problem. We drive to Hilo for
medical appointments and food shopping: necessities. During the volcanic eruption in 2018, that devastated our
neighbors in Leilani Estates, an alternate route would have provided more traffic flexibility, safety, and flow.
Please take advantage of the offered funding:$1 million from the Hawaii State Legislature and an additional $1 million
from the County of Hawaii.
