Subject: Support for Bill 131
Please pass Bill 131, which allocates$1M of county funds to be combined with $1M of state funds to study
alternate routes for Puna.
Both upper and lower Puna need better access to Hilo and West Hawaii. Funding this study will allow the
community to speak up about their ideas and needs, and allow for the development of improved road designs
and DOT plans that benefit everyone-from regular commuters to First Responders, inclusive of folks who only
occasionally go to Hilo and to tourists who want easy access to HVNP and Pahoa.
Thank you to Councilwoman Kierkiewicz for introducing this bill to the Finance committee.
