Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Resolution No. 437-24,reports as follows:
Resolution No. 437-24,transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa, via Communication
No. 727 dated February 1, 2024, creates thirty-three new temporary Police Officer I positions for the
Police Department.
This resolution establishes additional positions for the Police Department's Recruit Training Pool to
allow for the transition and rotation of inbound and existing Police Officer I recruits.
Area II Field Operations Bureau Major Sherry Bird was available in the Kona Chambers to provide
background information and answer any Committee questions.
Multiple Committee Members commented in support of this measure. Committee Member Jenn
Kagiwada stated that she hopes to see the number of recruits increase so that there may be more
community policing.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 437-24, and
recommends its adoption.
