Subject: Say "no" to Bill 130 limiting public parking cc'
Aloha council members,
I'm strongly opposed to Bill 130 and hope you will agree. ,a
It seems that restricting parking is the new way to attempt to solve issues that are unrelated or
peripherally to it.
In this case, parking restrictions Over such a large area near Lake St in Kona continue a trend of
squeezing people off of streets and out of neighborhoods who want to walk through what are public
neighborhoods and streets.This also includes limiting access to the Walua walking trail(which is also
being limited by local neighbors putting up cones and rocks to stop parking).This restrictive parking law
is being done at the behest of homeowners who bought their property with the full knowledge that they
were purchasing it with public roadways and access for all who want to walk, bike or drive through that
neighborhood for transportation, exercise and fun.
Restricting this parking is tantamount to increasing the gentrification our region is already struggling to
avoid. Issues of homelessness and theft need to be dealt with on a more cellular level.Taking away the
rights of the public to use and enjoy their streets and pathways are bandaid solutions that hurt the public
because of a few bad apples(or maybe just homeowners who don't want to share their roadways or
erroneously think they own them).
