Aloha,
I am writing this in support of Resolution 443-24 to fund a USGS study of the lower
Puna watershed. Our family farm in lower Puna is one mile makai of PGV, however,
all of us in Hawaii have a vested interest in protecting the `aina from potential
contamination and irreparable damage to our water sources. It is important to have
reliable measurement data to allow this to be done. Please pass this Resolution to
follow through on the recommendation of the Adler Report that was commissioned by
Hawaii County in 2013 that the USGS should study whether the wells, ponds and the
watershed in lower Puna show any signs of geothermal contamination from Puna
Geothermal Venture.
