Today I am testifying in support of Resolution #450-24.
I am the swim coach for three programs in Pahoa; high school, club and
Special Olympics swimming.

The funds released through this resolution will not only provide : ,
equipment for the Pahoa Community Aquatic Center (PCAC) and the
Billy Kenoi District Park but it will give these facilities the
enhancements that are needed to hold athletic competitions and -
community events. It is about the community, the keiki and their "7.7

families, for now as well as the for future. ,
Athletic events bring many people into the district, and this supports
the infrastructure of the community.Attendees use the restaurants,
stores, gas stations, etc. It is a known fact the businesses see an uptick
when events happen. I cannot speak with authority on what it takes to
run the dry land sports, but as of right now when running an aquatic
event for high school or club swimming we rely on equipment that is
owned and transported to the facility by other groups. It is not always a
smooth process and many times we make due without a scoreboard.
The Pahoa pool is beautiful and is built for competitive use and
recreation. It is staffed with caring lifeguards and well maintained. We
all work together and have pride in Pahoa that cannot be denied. This
aloha continues with the park staff, who are amazing.
We all say we want what's best for the kids. Passing this resolution will
most definitely be best for them; our Pahoa kids, and kids island and
statewide that come to practice and play.A supported childhood is the
foundation of a wonderful life. Please support this resolution for today
and all the tomorrows. Mahalo
