A number of solutions were agreed upon at the task force meeting but I don't see them being implemented yet and my concern is the focus for the new agency is being put into things that are not what the public has been asking for. Here's what we've been asking for: 1. Free/low cost and aggressive spay and neuter campaigns:this needs to be#1 priority of the agency vs the old "catch and kill" model,we will never get a handle of the problem if we don't do widespread spay and neuter to keep the islands animals at a manageable population. Rather than collecting all the homeless dogs and cats and giving them a lethal injection and sending their bodies to landfills,we should be spaying and neutering all dogs and cats to reduce the population humanely 2. Tougher laws and Prosecution of owners of dangerous dogs-2 people have been killed in recent years and countless more injured by loose dangerous dogs and there still seems to be zero meaningful repercussions for the owners. How many more people have to be mauled to death to make a real change in the prosecution of these Comm.No. . owners? Ref. To: 1 Ref. Date NA 3. 9 2 3. Tougher laws and prosecution of animal cruelty: hundreds of dogs live on short chains 24/7 forced to live in their own pee and poop, exposed to the elements, with no socialization, this is cruelty, just one example 4. Central point of contact needed for the public to find adoptable dogs and cats to foster or adopt or look for their lost pets Thank you, I look forward to your response, Rebecca Corby 18 year Hawaii Resident 2
