Subject: Bill 140-24
Aloha Council members,
I am writing in support of Bill 140-24 as resident of Seaview who makes use of the Kalapana transfer station.
When I moved here 16 years ago it was open 24/7.Then it went to being open daily with a worker and a locked gate.
Trash along 137 got much worse at that point and since then irresponsible residents leave bags outside the gate, they get
ripped open, trash blows around and ends up in the ocean which is about 100 yards away. Then during the recession it
went down to 3 days per week, then 1 for only a few hours such that residents who live in the area and have full time
jobs could literally never use it if they worked on Saturdays as I do. Despite a massive population boom in the area and a
similarly massive increase in trash, it's now open 1 day per week despite a similar massive growth of the County budget.
While 8-10 hours per day 7 days per week is needed, adding a 2nd day will at least help somewhat.
Mahalo,
