Dear Council Members:
I am a resident of Kailua-Kona, born in Hawaii. I have experienced
the negative reasons why the amendment proposed to SECTION 1.
Chapter 14, article 1, section 14.1, of the Hawaii County Code
should be amended as proposed to prohibit alcoholic beverages in
public parks, school grounds, and other public places.
Even recently, I have almost called the police due to drunken brawls
and loud, disorderly mayhem coming from the White Sands Beach
Park, which I happen to live close to. This is becoming a problem
two or three times per week.
I support your efforts entirely to keep Kailua-Kona and our attractive
island a place to raise our families, enjoy the economy our tourism
provides and a place where we are protected from the lawlessness and
hostility that I have witnessed in connection with alcohol in our
parks. It surprises me it is not already outlawed on school grounds.
