Kimball, Council Chair, Council District 1 Ashley Kierkiewicz, Council Member, Council District 4 DATE: April 2, 2024 SUBJECT: Proposed Amendment to Resolution No. 452-24; a Resolution Authorizing the Mayor to Enter into an Agreement with Arizona State University. Please see the following proposed amendment to Resolution No, 452-24, The amendment is shown below in Ramseyer format with respect to the contents of Resolution No, 452-24; in which material to be added is underscored. Due to the limited scope of the amendment, a copy of the new draft of the resolution that would result if this amendment were adopted is not attached. Resolution No. 452-24 is amended by adding three clauses to be inserted as the first, second, and third BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED clauses, respectively, and to read as follows: "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Director of Research and Development is hereby requested to submit to the Council an annual report detailing Arizona State University's efforts to aid the County in its interventions of Public Utilities Conuiiission dockets as authorized by this resolution. "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that prior to Arizona State University intervening in new dockets on behalf of the County of Hawaii the Council shall be briefed and provide thematic yuidance or policy direction regarding the Count 's position that ASU would advocate for. "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this body urges the Director of Research and Development to provide an internship or fellowship opportunity for a Hawaii Island college or university student or students to assist ASU with the work hereinabove described, and thereby increase local expertise in renewable energy matters, familiarity with the regulatory framework for public utilities in general, and capacity in navigating PUC proceedings in particular."
