HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 482 Draft 01 2022-2024 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE KONA COFFEE CULTURAL FESTIVAL TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES WITH MISS KONA COFFEE. WHEREAS, the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that strives to preserve, perpetuate, and promote Kona’s coffee heritage; and WHEREAS, the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival supports the community service projects and educational activities of each reigning Miss Kona Coffee; and WHEREAS, in April and May of 2024, the current Miss Kona Coffee will coordinate and/or participate in community service projects and educational activities as follows: April 20, 2024 – coordinate, participate in, and provide refreshments and lunch for a “Community Garden and Recycle Day” at Konawaena Elementary School in celebration of Earth Day, which includes helping to expand the school’s garden; April 23-25, 2024 – coordinate, participate in, and provide light refreshments, snacks, and a “Jump for Fun” keiki water slide for a “Community Spring Celebration” to be held at La‘i‘ōpua 2020 on the 23rd, Konawaena Elementary School on the 24th, and Kealakehe Elementary School on the 25th; May 4, 2024 – participate in and provide refreshments for a “Community Cleanup Day” at Harold H. Higashihara Park; and May 28, 2024 – participate in and provide snacks, popcorn, and other refreshments for a year-end “Community Movie Night” at Konawaena Elementary School; and WHEREAS, the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival supports Miss Kona Coffee’s community service projects and educational activities and is requesting funds to rent a water slide and to purchase light refreshments, snacks, and lunch as specified in the various projects and activities listed above; and WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support public programs for youth that promote educational activities in a drug- and alcohol-free environment, such as the community service projects and educational activities with Miss Kona Coffee; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival for expenses related to the community service projects and educational activities with Miss Kona Coffee. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION: $5,000 OUT AND FROM: 010.101.5101.91 Clerk-Council SVC – Contingency Relief $5,000 CREDITED TO: 010.251.5251.39 Department of Liquor Control $5,000 Public Programs 115 Misc. Contract Services (Kona Coffee Cultural Festival – Miss Kona Coffee-Projects and Activities) BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
