Subject: NO on Bill 143 -- Long Council terms/GOEAC April 2
Aloha,
I understand that it must be very time-consuming and frustrating to have to campaign for up to a year
every other year. It probably keeps council members from focusing on the issues they were elected to
do. However, the U.S. House of Representatives does it.
Maybe it's not the 2 year terms as much as the way our system has become so dependent upon
raising money and having longer campaigns. Maybe shortening the length of time a candidate can
campaign with signs, ads, etc. could be shorter.
As much as I'd like to see some council reps stay in office forever, that's not generally helpful. I could
live with 2 3-year terms if that would help council reps get more work done on the public's behalf, but
I'm strongly opposed to allowing a longer consecutive time in office, especially 3 4-year consecutive
council terms.
Please vote "no" on increasing on Bill 143.
Mahalo and best sincerely, 060.11
