[55 I emailed you about Mayor Roth's budget a few days ago, and I mentioned many important issues that the island is having, using News articles about those issues. Because my heart genuinely cares about the island, I also mentioned for you to use common sense about these issues that need to be deft with before continuing to approve more developments. I know that you all care about Hawai'i or you would not have taken your jobs. I would like to help these big issues by bringing possible solutions to the issues I mentioned, and I hope Mayor Roth would include these kinds of ideas in his 2024 budget because we need new renewable solutions to create a better future. We need to start creating new ways to deal with serious issues because the old ways are not working. Thank you. I read that Mayor Roth's 2024 budget has increased by 6.6% from 2023, and does it include any remedies that will help all these serious issues? Please consider these ideas for the 2024 budget on Big Island. Renewable Energy Does Mayor Roth have a 2024 budget that will start creating more renewable energy on the island? She is mother earth to me, and I believe mother earth would want to help her kids who live on her through offering power from her steam that she creates. How about more cost-effective wind energy? Can you please research what would be best for the island and create a budget for renewable energy? Tax cut for homeowners trying to help through buying solar power or home wind turbines. Does Mayor Roth have a budget for renewable power in 2024 because of power outages starting to happen? Could there be tax cuts to homeowners who install their own renewable power? There are many options for renewable power besides solar power and more inventions are coming. It will cost the state less in trying to create more power if homeowners purchase their own power through solar power, or any other renewable energy way. This would be a win -win and deserves a tax break for any homeowner who changes their power to renewable power because they won't be taking power from the island's power plants and the power plants on island might then have enough power for everyone and not have constant power outages. Can you please investigate if the Big Island could be considered for the same funding as Kauai has that will help with renewable energy on their island? They are just big holes under houses that allow their sewage to run underground and into the ocean daily. There are many varieties of eco-friendly toilets on the market and if the homeowners that have cesspools take the time to investigate what would be the best toilet for their house, they could realize that they would save a lot of money in water usage as well as be able to help stop polluting the ocean on the island. It would help the state to not have to help pay to transform cesspools into county sewage lines, this would all be worth a nice tax cut for these homeowners. Please, consider this as a new possibility for this issue. Public Transportation Does Mayor Roth have a budget for public transportation that will bring in eco-friendly buses? That article was written in 2022, has Mayor Roth helped to do anything to fix this issue that was known two years ago? Does Mayor Roth's budget include anything for new buses because in my first letter I mentioned Big Island buses breakdown a lot, they are not on time often and they are very overcrowded especially during cruise ship days and because the population has seriously increased on island it looks like more buses are needed to help with public transportation but is there a budget for it. Oahu's buses charge $3 a bus ride, they are on time more often, they don't breakdown as much, and obviously because they are a city they have more buses, so they are not as seriously overcrowded as Big Island buses, especially the Kona trolley. The Big Islands buses are free and offering free bus rides might be causing the bus company not to be able to make the money they need to maintain their buses because they breakdown all the time. I've rode the bus, and it broke down twice when I was riding, once was on saddle road. Can Mayor Roth create a budget for new buses, preferably electric buses because this would save a lot in the fuel cost in the long run and be cleaner for the island? Has anyone looked into government grants to help bring more buses to Big Island? In this video he mentions government grants. Can you look into getting a grant for much needed buses on the Big Island? There are a lot of options for public transportations if you investigate what is out there and please do because the island's public transportation is very poor. I mentioned about the parking issue in my first letter and said that Mayor Roth's Park and Ride the Trolley. I mentioned buying the vacant land at the bottom of Henry Street in town and actually creating more parking lots because that would actually help the parking issue, to create more parking lots and not try and push off this problem on to the Kona Trolley that's over run as it is. I realized that there is a lot of vacant land just south of the last shops in Kona town. It is right across from Huggo's and right next to Lavern's on the south side. VAlould it be possible for Mayor Roth to include a budget for new parking lots that are totally needed in Kona town in this area, maybe even a two story one? Water Issue Does Mayor Roth have any 2024 budget for the will help the water issue on the island? Creating jobs for the homeless by having someone pick them up to take them to work would help them know that someone cares enough to start a program that would give them a job if the wanted one and get them to be part of the community again with respect and kindness. The video that is above about creating jobs for the homeless would be a great start here in Hawai'i and it would show the world that the island cares enough to really step up and try and help the homeless be part of society again though helping them have a way to work and help take care of themselves, even in hard times. There are so many new inventions these days, all you have to do is research to find other ideas besides landfill to get rid of rubbish. This store is a great way not to have as many packages and this idea would be great to start going towards. Also if most items were in bulk with less packaging we could shop by weight instead of needing so many packages. I know most things have packaging and ALL the packaging turns into waste for the landfill. Would it be possible to start looking into buying products from places with low packaging? As in only purchase tomatoes that don't come with packaging. This is an example of this idea because of we all have our own produce bags we would just have to grab tomatoes and put them in the bag and buy them by weight. I know this idea would be hard for other items, but it would be a start to thinking in a less waste way to live, and it could bring other ideas, and other inventions in the future to help stop so much packaging. There is affordable housing that's currently being developed in other areas on the island. Why does it look like this homeless project has been stopped and made to be more housing rentals? Am I wrong in my understanding that this project is no longer an emergency shelter and homeless support, and Mayor Roth approved this change? I thought it was very supportive for helping people in need. Why isn't there anything in Mayor Roth's budget for homeless support because the homeless seem to be increasing? Does he have a budget for the homeless and I just don't see it? Public transportation, the bus system has serious issues. Has anyone investigated how much the buses break down now from when they were able to charge $2 a person? Big Island's bus system breaks down a lot. I heard Oahu's bus systems runs very well, they are on time and don't have a lot of breakdown issues and they charge $3 to ride their bus. I think that's because the bus system on the Big Island is free, and because of this the bus company might not make as much money as when they charged $2 for each ride and therefore, the buses breakdown a lot more, maybe because they are not being properly maintained with the budget they need to keep to keep having free bus rides. Has anyone investigated if the buses broke down less when they were charging $2 for rides before it became free bus rides? There is a budget for transportation but has anyone looked at how well the buses are being maintained while running for free? Because they break down a lot and can be overcrowded. Is there a budget that will increase the number of trolleys and buses on the island? Can Mayor Roth create a budget that would actually help deal with parking issues in Kona, instead of putting Kona parking issues off onto Trolleys when there are not enough Trolleys to fit everyone who wants a ride, especially on cruise ship days? The island needs a real parking solution and not just to push off parking issues onto Trolleys, especially when they break down and there are not enough Trolleys for the number of visitors and locals to offer good transportation. A parking solution could be to purchase the land that is for sale at the bottom of Henry Street because it is the last big land that is in the downtown area, and use that for parking because Kona town needs more parking and not another resort. Does Mayor Roth have anything in the budget that helps the rubbish/landfill issues? The island's landfill is going to have serious issues in the near future because it has issues now and all the new developments that have been approved for the future will add even more rubbish to these already hurting landfills. We don't have enough landfill for it all and all the future developments that have been approved. How about slowing approval of more developments until this issue is completely resolved, or it will get worse with more developments and there are years of developments that have already been approved for the future, and the island is having power outages right now.
