RESOLUTION NO. 491 24
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO '0 KA`U KAKOU TO
SUPPORT ITS COMMUNITY GARDENS PROJECT.
WHEREAS, '0 Ka`u Kakou (OKK) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission
is to support and promote a healthy community through education and economic development
opportunities that improve the quality of life in Ka`u and return Ka`u to the productive and
healthy community it has been in the past; and
WHEREAS, OKK started its Community Garden project to provide the community with
fresh produce and a space to promote and expand sustainable gardening practices through aloha
`aina and kuleana within the community; and
WHEREAS, OKK is requesting funds to purchase seeds, hog wire rolls, no weed mats,
staple boxes, and fertilizer; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports sustainable
agricultural practices by promoting educational opportunities designed to build skills and
capacity in the farming community and to support locally produced agricultural products; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to OKK for its Community Gardens project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
