Aloha Council members
Recently I had occasion to help several individuals try to engage police and get help with serious mental health issues
from a Neighboor in HPP.
I was unable to do this.
Certainly 1 had been told that some officers had been NAMI (National Asso of Mental Illness) trained and silly me, I
thought someone having a clear problem could call the police for help in this specific area. Not so.
First the traumatized individual has to make the call even if they fear retaliation. No one else can call. Then even if you
get past this first stumbling block, you cannot specifically ask for a NAMI trained officer to show up and have a nice little
chat with the obviously demented individual who is causing the upset, Setting aside the screams and threats that have
happened, the victims can ask for a restraining order but the other half of a possible settlement would be an early visit
by trained police Personel to the site of the problem before it escalates.
And so we begin by asking you to define a clear path for the public to gain help immediately and effectively before
serious drama and,trauma occurs. ,
