Aloha Council Chair Kimball and Council Members:
I am pleased to nominate Mel Yokoyama, Jr. of Pahala to the Ka`u Community Development
Plan, Action Committee.
Mel, a native of Pahala, graduated from Ka`u High School before earning both his Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration and his Master of Science in System Engineering from the
Naval Postgraduate School. He is the esteemed founder and chairman of the Malama Ka`u
Foundation, a nonprofit Native Hawaiian Organization.
With over 28 years of active-duty service in the Naval Aviation and Acquisition Professional
communities, Mel retired as a Captain, showcasing his dedication and leadership as a Navy
Veteran. If confirmed, he will serve a term ending December 31, 2026.
