MSY OF. <br /> • <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAI`I <br /> *ftsW.1.. <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 507 24 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA TO <br /> SUPPORT THE BLACK SANDS BEACH COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION'S MALAMA <br /> KEIKI PROGRAM. <br /> WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, volunteer service organization <br /> whose mission is to provide resources to maintain a safe and healthy community through <br /> environmental education, hands-on projects, advocacy, watchdogging, and land trusting; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Black Sands Beach Community Association's Malama Keiki program <br /> is conducted during each major school break and plays a crucial role in promoting the well-being <br /> and educational development of youth through structured activities encompassing science, <br /> reading, math, music, art, and chess; and <br /> WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna will serve as the fiscal sponsor for the Malama Keiki <br /> summer program to be held June 10-14, 2024, which will be free for all keiki in the Black Sands <br /> Beach subdivision and conducted in a safe environment where they can learn and have fun; and <br /> WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is requesting funds to purchase an SRA Reading Lab <br /> learning kit, eight ukulele, 13 box sets of chess, checkers, and tic-tac-toe, and six folding tables <br /> for the Malama Keiki program; and <br /> WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Liquor Control is to support public <br /> programs for youth that promote educational activities in a drug- and alcohol-free environment; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to Malama 0 Puna to support the Black Sands Beach <br /> Community Association's Malama Keiki program. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
