A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HOSPICE OF HILO
FOR ITS 20TH ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF LIFE EVENT AT REEDS BAY BEACH
PARK.
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo, doing business as Hawai`i Care Choices, is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization that provides medical, social, and spiritual services for terminally ill
patients at their end of life, as well as providing support to their families and caregivers; and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is hosting the 20th Annual Celebration of Life, a
community event to be held on Sunday, May 26, 2024, from noon to 7:30 p.m. at Reeds Bay
Beach Park to commemorate the lives of loved ones who have passed and to spread awareness
and education about end-of-life decisions; and
WHEREAS, the Celebration of Life features a Lights of Remembrance ceremony, which
is Hawai`i Island's largest lantern floating event, as well as an array of activities and music
designed to bring people together to honor loved ones who have passed in a reflection of love;
and
WHEREAS, Hospice of Hilo is requesting funds to assist with its radio advertisement
expenses; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports organizations that provide
programs, projects, or activities in a drug-free and alcohol-free environment; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to Hospice of Hilo for its 20th Annual Celebration of Life
event at Reeds Bay Beach Park.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
