RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO A MULTI-YEAR AGREEMENT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAI‘I AT MĀNOA
WHEREAS, the Department of Research & Development wishes to enter into a multi-year agreement for five (5) years with the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of this agreement is to share the cost of funding two Extension Agent positions in Hawai‘i County; and
WHEREAS, these Extension Agents will cover Indigenous Crops/East Hawai‘i Master Gardeners and East Hawai‘i Livestock; and
WHEREAS, Section 10-11 of the County Charter requires that any contract, lease or other obligation requiring payment of funds from the appropriations of a later fiscal year or of more
than one fiscal year be approved by resolution; and
WHEREAS, Hawai‘i Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that County departments obtain the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting
action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant
to those powers; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I:
In accordance with section 46-7, Hawai‘i Revised Statutes and section 10-11 of the County Charter, the Mayor of the County of Hawai‘i is authorized to
execute, on behalf of the County, an agreement, and related documents with the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa for purpose as described above.
That sufficient funds be budgeted in future fiscal years to cover the anticipated obligations of the County under the terms of the agreement.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawai‘i shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of Management, the Finance Department, and the Department
of Research and Development.
