COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />STATE OF HAWAI`I <br />RESOLUTION NO. 52 24 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO ASSIST THE ANIMAL CONTROL AND <br />PROTECTION AGENCY WITH PURCHASING ANIMAL MICROCHIPS. <br />WHEREAS, Section 143-2, Hawai`i Revised Statutes, requires that any person who <br />owns or harbors a dog or cat that is three months old or over must have that dog or cat implanted <br />with a microchip identification; and <br />WHEREAS, stray animals and lost pets are a persistent concern for Hawaii Island, and <br />before any animal can be placed into foster care, adopted, or reunited with its owner(s), the <br />ownership of the animal must first be verified, which is more easily done when the animal has <br />been microchipped; and <br />WHEREAS, the Animal Control and Protection Agency works with its transfer partners <br />to find homes for stray animals with positive dispositions to save as many as possible and to <br />minimize the need for euthanasia; and <br />WHEREAS, the Animal Control and Protection Agency is requesting finds to purchase <br />microchips so that more stray animals and lost pets can be fostered, adopted, or reunited (if not <br />already microchipped) with their owners; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that <br />Contingency Relief Rinds from Council District 6 will be appropriated to the Animal Control and <br />Protection Agency to purchase animal microchips. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby <br />transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
