No. 500-24 <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 1:00 P.M. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 500-24, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 500-24, transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa, via Communication <br /> No. 839 dated April 12, 2024, authorizes the acceptance of a monetary donation of$750,000 from the <br /> Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation. <br /> The donation to the Department of Parks and Recreation would be used for the design, permitting, and <br /> other costs associated with the construction of a new multi-use community center/emergency shelter <br /> facility at Spencer Kalani Schutte Park. <br /> Committee Chair Matt Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder thanked the Sayre's for testifying on this measure. <br /> Mr. Kaneali`i-Kleinfelder asked Parks and Recreation Director Maurice Messina to provide background <br /> on this measure. <br /> Committee Member Cindy Evans expressed excitement for this new project. Ms. Evans asked if this <br /> facility would have a generator in emergencies. Mr. Messina replied that they would work with Civil <br /> Defense. Ms. Evans then asked if this facility would be available as an Incident Command Center. <br /> Mr. Messina said he could not answer that and stated that the Civil Defense Department would be better <br /> equipped to answer that question. <br /> Committee Member Heather Kimball thanked Nancy Carr Smith for her dedication to this project and <br /> the Sayres for their contributions. Committee Member Ashley Kierkiewicz supported Ms. Kimball's <br /> comments and expressed her appreciation to both Ms. Smith and the Sayres. <br /> FC Report No. 157 <br />
