HomeMy WebLinkAboutREP FC 162 2024/04/30 2022-2024 REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE ON FINANCE DATE: April 30, 2024 Re: Comm.No. 843/Bill No. 158 PLACE: Council Chambers Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i TIME: 1:00 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawai`i County Council Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 Your Committee on Finance,to which was referred Bill No. 158,reports as follows: Bill No. 158,transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa, via Communication No. 843 dated April 12, 2024, amends Ordinance No. 23-50, as amended,the Operating Budget for the County of Hawai`i for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. This bill appropriates revenues in the Federal Grants—Aina Based Youth Prevention and Resilience Programs account($12,000); and appropriates the same to the Aina Based Youth Prevention and Resilience Programs account, to be used by the Department of Parks and Recreation for planning, designing, and implementation of substance free educational community service events. Business Manager Reid Sewake and Recreations Administrator Lindsey Iyo appeared in the Hilo Council Chambers. Mr. Sewake provided background on this measure. Committee Member Ashley L. Kierkiewicz asked if the community partners they provided were the only organizations they would work with. Ms. Iyo stated that the list provided is past organizations that the department has worked with. The department is willing and open to working with any organization that has the same goals as this program. Ms. Iyo provided some background on the program and how they funded it in the past. Committee Member Susan L. K. Lee Loy commented in support of this measure.
